Every Factory Equipped 426 Street HEMI Car!

Because every classic muscle car that fetches top dollar at auction has a 426 Hemi, there is a misconception that the iconic engine was relatively abundant. The reality is that hemiequipped rides fetch six and sometimes even seven figures because they are insanely rare.

The Chrysler 426 cubicinch Street Hemi V8 was only produced for 6 years, between 1966 and 1971. In that time, only 9,778 Dodge and Plymouth cars left the factory floor with 426 Hemi under the hood. A lot of these 425horsepower Mopars were destroyed while racing or just screwing around, so the number that actually still exist has to be minuscule.

Another mistaken assumption about the 426 Street Hemi is that it was available as an option on any Chryslerbranded vehicle. The truth is, it was only an option on intermediate cars from Dodge or Plymouth and was initially limited to the BBody platform, then confined to designated performance models.

There were eventually 14 different cars that could be optioned with a 426 Hemi, but many of those were trims, so realistically, there were probably only 7 models that ever got one. In the interest of documenting Mopar muscle car history, here is a list of every car that was blessed with a factoryequipped 426 Street Hemi engine.
