A Jesuit Adventure

St. Thomas the Apostle is believed to have travelled to Kerala and set the foundation of Christianity in India after the death of Jesus Christ. Is this a true story or only a tradition? This video explores the fascinating story of St. Thomas, the beginning of Christianity in India and attempts to distinguish facts from fiction.

The video based on the book QUEST FOR THE HISTORICAL THOMAS APOSTLE OF INDIA, a Rereading of the Evidence. By Fr. George Nedungatt SJ tries to analyse all the theories surrounding the tradition of St. Thomas. Beginning from the meaning of the term 'India', we look at the apocryphal work 'Acts of Thomas' and the writings of Church Fathers. Other popular theories include that of St. Bartholomew and Thomas of Kinayi. We then consider the rich and diverse Indian Tradition which includes the tradition centring around Taxila and then proceeds to look at the South Indian traditon revolving around the tomb at Mylapore and the miracles and works of St. Thomas.
