The Bahamas Caves Research Foundation is conducting exploration of a deep cave known as Deans Blue Hole, located on Long Island, The Bahamas. The first diver to the bottom of Dean's Blue Hole was Cave Diver Jim King. He descended 663 feet to the bottom of the blue hole and is still the only diver to do so. His team also discovered a small cave entrance in the side of the blue hole at a depth of 150 feet. Due to back mounted cylinder configurations, his team was limited to a few hundred feet of exploration before the passages became too small. With side mounted configuration and rebreather technology, the Bahamas Caves Research Foundation has been able to explore much more of the cave and we continue to do so. The highly decorated room that was found on this dive was a complete surprise. These formations are a minimum of 10,000 years old, but future research at this site will give us the true age of the formations.
