The Making of Marram

In this episode, we rectified a few issues on the Davit Crane. We noticed slight flexing in the frame when the crane stopped or started in mid motion. While the design permits some flexibility, it appeared too excessive. To address this, we installed additional gussets to enhance rigidity, significantly boosting our confidence in its performance.

We're thrilled to announce that we're now at the stage of preparing Marram for its final undercoat after which it will be ready for nonslip/topcoat.

Marram is a Dix 470 blue water cruising catamaran designed by Dudley Dix and is intended to cruise the oceans of the world. She is being built in Melbourne Australia and is the second 470 being built, we started our journey around 2014 and began looking for a boat thinking about what we wanted. We looked at production boats & customs boats, in the end we fell in love with the Dix design. We took a few years to sort ourselves out and build our shed, during the shed building phase we worked closely with Dudley and Kevin (who owns EXO Marine), we choose to build our own CNC router and cut the kit ourselves, Kevin supplied us with the cut files and we were off and running in 2016.

We are extreme amateurs at filming and editing videos and I mean extreme! Feel free to hit like / subscribe and or leave us any constructive comments and suggestions, all will be very much appreciated as we show you our live and challenges of building Marram and getting her to the water.
