Baja 1000 Race Recap Well we finished a respectable 6th Place in Trophy Truck. It’s bittersweet because we were on track to get a podium, but then had electrical issues that almost caused us to DNF. After that we were happy to finish.

Cameron started and ran nice and smooth to Pit 2. He gained 4 spots on course and handed over the truck in perfect shape. I got in with my codriver Malcolm, and we settled in to a comfortable pace that still enabled us to pick off a few of the AWD trucks ahead of us. Besides one quick mishap where we stuffed the bumper into a massive hole and damaged the hood, we kept the truck moving and handed her back over at Mile 600; 4 more spots ahead of the position we were in when we got in. My goal accomplished ✅ Cameron got the truck to 4th on the road and 3rd on corrected time, when he lost throttle input just after mile 700. He and his codriver Cody worked hard to figure out the complicated systems on the truck and were able to remove the whole speed limiter which enabled them to use the throttle again. Cost was 2 hours of time. Besides some rain and snow they ripped the rest of the way in and made up a couple spots before the finish.

While we didn’t reach our goal of making it on the podium, I feel the race was a success. The team worked hard, the truck performed amazing, and we finished without any missing VCP’s or significant speed zone penalties. This was my first Baja 1000 driving in a Trophy Truck and I feel good about what we accomplished and learned.
