Dutch name: Eidereend (Somateria m. mollissima). A horrible sight, yet this is nature: at first I was thrilled to see Eider ducklings because this is a rare breeding bird in ZuidHolland province. The ducklings didn't seem to have that much of a hard time swimming in the high waves. However, one duckling got too close to the rocks and was smashed into it by a strong wave (not videod), apparently causing a lethal head injury. It made it back to the worried females at first but eventually it got washed ashore and fought for its life. The rocks were too slippery to try and climb down to grab the injured duckling but as you can tell from the rest of the video grabbing it would not have helped much, as it died within minutes ...
