As Australia, Canada, the Philippines and the U.S. hold two days of joint navy and air force drills in Manila’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), China tailed the exercises with three warships. Beijing announced it had also begun joint navy and air force drills around Scarborough Shoal, which lies within the Philippines' EEZ but is controlled by China.

We also look at the Chinese survey ship Ke Xue San Hao, being tracked by the Philippine coast guard.
For nearly two weeks, the ship has moved around Sabina Shoal and other shoals in several critical locations west of the Philippine island of Palawan.
