There are more than 200 species of chameleons and most of those can change colour quickly.
Here are some interesting facts about chameleons:
They have long and sticky tongues to help them catch insects easily.
Their diets are mostly insects. They don't tend to eat plants.
They have good eyesight compared with most lizards. They can see prey from 510 metres away.
Chameleons vary in size. Some are as small as 1.25cm and others as long as 27cm.
Chameleons not only change colour for camouflage, but in response to mood and temperature.
The eyes of chameleons can rotate independently, giving them the ability to see 360 degrees!
Chameleons are solitary animals and can feel stressed if people pick them up. They are not sociable; if two chameleons have visual contact, they tend to change their colour instantly.
Chameleons mostly live in trees and, for those species which do, they have a tail which can grip onto branches. Some people have likened such tails as "fifth legs"
