A common, yet false Protestant claim is that the Reformers and their successors "rediscovered true, biblical worship."

Since 500 years has produced no consensus among Protestants about what "biblical worship" actually looks like, Protestants should therefore either 1) jettison their foundational presupposition of the perspicuity of Scripture, or 2) reduce "worship" to the nonessential category.

But even worse for Protestants, their stripped down worship not only puts them at odds with the Catholic Church today, but the Church since its beginnings. Either the Reformers were right, or the Church Fathers were right. But they can't both be, since they sharply disagree with one another on Christian worship.
