Join us on one of the most scenic journeys in the world GoldenPass in Switzerland, stretching from Montreux on Lake Geneva, via river Sarine/Sanne valley up to jetset ski resort of Gstaad. From Gstaad route takes us down the river Simme valley (Simmental) via Zweisimmen (breakofgauge border between MOB and BLS railway networks) reaching the lake Thun (Thunersee) at Spiez. From Spiez we will follow the southern shores of lake Thun up to Interlaken. Golder Pass route then continues via Zentralbahn railway along the the north shore of Brienz lake (Brienzersee) lake and over Brünig pass to reach its end at Lucerne.

A brandnew GoldenPass Express (GPX) trains and service was introduced in December 2022, featuring unique Alstom/Stadler gauge changing trains (between 1000mm narrowgauge and 1435mm standard gauge), though some issues with the system are still being resolved before trains will be able to do a seamless Montreux to Interlaken journey.

In this first part, we are traveling on Montreux Lenk im Simmental narrowgauge (1000mm) line completed in 1905 and today operated by MontreuxBerner Oberland (MOB) Railway company. Line starts with a steep zigzag climb from Lake Geneva, raising 600 meters in 12 kilometres with maximum gradient of 73‰ reaching Jor before entering a 2424meter Jaman Tunnel to reach the valley of river Sarine/Sanne by Montbovon. We follow river Sarine/Sanne valley, crossing the border between Frenchspeaking Vaud canton and Germanspeaking Berne canton between Rougemont and Saanen reaching a jetset ski resort of Gstaad. After Gstaad we climb again to reach highest point of the line at 1276m ASL and then we descend into river Simme valley (Simmental) reaching the end of first part of our journey at Zweisimmen, from which we will continue on standardgauge BLS railway to Interlaken.
