PerBastet, known to the ancient Greeks as Bubastis and called Tel Bata today, was a major city of Egypt during the 23rd dynasty (950750 BCE). It was the center of the cult of Bastet, ancient cat goddess, and hosted a gigantic cemetery of domestic cats.
