Through The Elders is a brand new interview series created by artist and DEADLY correspondent LUQ. The series explores the tales of elders and veterans in Caribbean culture, hearing untold stories first hand.

To mark the anniversary of Bob Marley's death on 11th May 1981, we chat to close friend Thorold DeMercardo, who claims to be the first dreadlock rasta working in an office environment in Jamaica. Thorold tells his story of working at Jamaica's Daily News in the 1970's and his friendship with reggae legend, Bob Marley. Together with LUQ., the pair discuss the evolution of Jamaican music and culture, his first meeting with the legend, introducing Bob to Cindy Breakspeare, the shocking assassination attempt on Bob’s life, the black liberation movement, and so much more.
