What madness is this? There are so many great synthesizers around at the moment; how can I possibly decide which are the best ones? Well, I have. Through the power of my great synthiness I have decreed that these eight (or nine) synthesizers will forever (for a while at least) be known as the "BEST."

The synths in this list are programmable, tweakable and playable synthesizer instruments that bring something special to the synthgame right now. I've avoided big synth workstations, clones or replicas because, for me, they don't really capture the essence of the synth as an innovative and postmodern artefact. Feel free to add your choices in the comments, but deep down in that secret dark place, you know I'm right :D
