Adding a plug to your furnace can be quite easy. I add a plug to my furnace in this video to allow me to run my generator in case of an emergency or if my power goes out. I found adding the plug to my furnace took under 30 minutes.

This is a plugswitch combo outlet which makes it easier to turn off the furnace.
