Perfect for classrooms and home study rooms. You'll look at it and laugh, and then remember what it says.
An avalanche is like a flood made of snow! Or...like a blanket of snow sliding quickly down a mountain. OR...like a snowball rolling down a hill, getting bigger and bigger as it goes. Did you know there are different kinds of avalanches?
In this video, we talk about several different kinds of avalanches: slab avalanches, wet avalanches, and loose slow avalanches. We also learn about where avalanches are more likely to happen, and what causes them—both in the shortterm, but also what are some underlying circumstances that make avalanches take place.
There are steps you can take to avoid being caught in avalanches, but just in case it happens, we also talk about how to make it more likely you will survive and be found by search and rescue teams. Finally, we take a peek at some of the steps people are taking to prevent avalanches from happening in the first place.
