On New Years Eve 1975, HBO debuted the first standup comedy television special, starring Robert Klein. Filmed at Haverford College in Pennsylvania, AN EVENING WITH ROBERT KLEIN launched HBO's comedy boom and helped pave the way for a world of uncensored comedy specials. This special highlights the observational humor and theatrical delivery that earned Klein the respect of other standup comedians.

The leap of faith allowed HBO to produce many more comedy specials from topnotch comedians such as George Carlin, Dennis Miller, Chelsea Handler, Chris Rock, Elayne Boosler, Bill Maher & Wanda Sykes.
