Albino Polypterus Senegalus Care Guide from The Fish Beast!

The fish that appears in this video is "Pink", my male Albino Bichir.

The Albino Polypterus Senegalus, also known as the Albino Bichir, is a fascinating and ancient fish species known for its unique appearance and hardy nature. Native to the waters of Africa, these fish can be a striking addition to your aquarium. These are also called #dinosaur bichirs. I find these fish to be extremely cute and interesting!

Tank Size: Minimum 55 gallons. Larger is better due to their potential size and activity level.
Substrate: Sand or garnet substrate.
Decor: Provide plenty of hiding spots with driftwood, caves, and rocks. Ensure all decor is securely placed to prevent injuries.
Plants: Lowlight plants like Anubias and Java Ferns can be used, but be aware they might get uprooted.

Temperature: 7485°F (2329°C).
pH: 6.27.8.
Hardness: 520 dGH.
Filtration: Use a powerful filter to maintain water quality, but ensure the current is not too strong as they prefer calm waters.

Food: Carnivorous diet. Offer a variety of foods including highquality sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small pieces of fish.
Feeding Frequency: Feed them once a day. Ensure they have time to eat as they are nocturnal and might prefer feeding at night.

Compatibility: Avoid small fish that can be seen as prey. Suitable tank mates include other large, nonaggressive fish like large cichlids, other bichirs, and large catfish. Behavior: They are generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially with their own kind.

Observation: Monitor for common health issues like parasites, fungal infections, and injuries from tank decor.
Lifespan: With proper care, they can live up to 1015 years.
Special Notes:

Tank Lid: Ensure a tightly fitted tank lid as Polypterus are known to be escape artists.
Breathing: They have a primitive lung and can breathe air, so ensure they can access the water surface.

Albino Polypterus Senegalus are unique and hardy fish that can thrive with proper care and setup. Their prehistoric look and interesting behavior make them a fascinating addition to a suitable aquarium.
