A foster kitten awaits the care of a new cat mom upon meeting her for the first time.
Unfortunately, mother cat Kira lost one of her kittens. He was born very weak and would not eat even when we bottle fed him. This is called fading kitten syndrome. We decided to introduce the mother cat to another kitten of our second cat, Mila, in the hope that she will adopt him.
There were several reasons for this decision:
1. Mila has four kittens and does not have enough milk. Kitten Ginny is the weakest and has trouble gaining weight
2. Mila never licks her kittens, which is important for the development of kittens. We had hope that mother cat Kira would start licking kitten Ginny and she would begin to gain weight better
3. After losing her kitten, Kira developed mastitis, as one kitten doesn’t drink enough. And the cat’s milk may disappear. An older kitten will help the cat establish lactation.
