5 Steps to Balding Gracefully

Follow
Stephen Robinson

I’ve been losing my hair for about 5 years. During this time it’s had an incredibly negative impact on my self esteem. I viewed having a thick head of hair as beautiful, honest and powerful, while being bald is often portrayed as a visual and moral ugliness.

Prior to a few months ago, I could count on one hand the number of people that I shared these feelings of “ugliness” with. I buried them, and did what I could do to prevent people from noticing my thinning hair.

Recently I said “FRICK THAT”, and decided to start being open and honest about how hard it’s been to watch my hair slowly disappear. At first this was challenging because I’m not used to being this vulnerable.

But, after two months of owning the buzzed head look, and having open conversations about why balding has been super shitty for me, these feelings of “ugliness” have mostly evaporated.

Losing your hair sucks. But talking about it makes it easier.
